Acrobat Form-Field Tabbing Order
Date: 25th April 2008 Category: macintosh 50 comments
Quick tip to getting the tab order of an Acrobat Pro PDF form set properly. There is a built-in method to do so but it was very troublesome. Acrobat Professional sets the tab order automatically as each element is created on the layout. Duplicate your document first. Use this document and run the "Run Form Field Recognition" menu selection to quickly create fields. When you are ready, copy and paste the fields from the duplicate to the final in the order you would like to tab.

Wrote a little Applescript script to speed up the process of changing views in the Mac OS finder. This script is best used in combination with the Apple Script Menu.
Carousel of Politico

Noticed a very nice Ajax/JQuery carousel of images on the homepage of Politico.com. Look for the Wuerking drawings on the right hand column, political satire. This is a javascript rotation of images with a popup to large image routine. The JQuery plugin appears to be created by Jan Sorgalla at http://sorgalla.com/jcarousel/ Many examples including dynamic data. Perhaps i will expand upon my own work section with this package.

Adobe® Acrobat® resources plentiful

I remember when all the Quark and Adobe programs came in a bookshelf collapsing volume set. Such was the time. Thank goodness times moved online. It seems a common habit recently (i admit to it as well) to Google for answers to sticky points that would have otherwise been learned early on by spending at minimum a half day consuming the material provided by Adobe on their website, on tutorials, or in the excellent help systems included in the program. Time is not on our side if you need to get work done. Look at Adobe.com, they have at least nine major applications , a couple of languages and Air. At what point do you stop learning and start producing? We all have different levels of know-how and maturity in an application. So, my point, you(and I) may never feel comfortable enough to stand up and lecture on an application or technology, however, if you spend a little time going beyond the top 10 on Google you might learn enough to crank out the work faster.
Here is a review of the material on Adobe® Acrobat® Pro available with the program and online.
Using UNION for a single menu
Date: 1st March 2008 Category: mysql 1 comments
Working on an in-house content management system, I came across a problem regarding my use of unions in mysql. The system has a file that is assigned to a particular job or jobs. With a html menu, i would like the user to be able to change the relationship to any other active job inline with the job it belongs to. The objective was to display the current record selection regardless of it's status along with all other records with the status of active. The mysql Union of two select statements works to combined my results sets. What if the file did not have a job reference at all?
Revolution on the North Shore

My years in Mililani and my love of the North Shore were renewed after seeing the wonderful documentary "Bustin' Down the Door" at the 2008 Santa Barbara Film Festival. Inspired by the movie and the imagery (a large portion by Dan Merkel), i thought i would find out where an idol of mine is today - Tom Boyle! Here is Tom's MySpace. Also, Tom's DVD re-release on ebodyboarding.com - a must have for any surf fan!
