Flash DataGrid Component Style and Sorting

Date: 28th October 2007 Category: flash  49 comments

thumbnailNot the simplest Flash components to style, but the DataGrid component has it all in there, it just takes patience and help from others to find all the right attributes to touch. The table presentation is elegant but the key is the ability to sort non-string data correctly. Credits to kirupa.com for the fine tuning (link below). The San Marcos Preserve website has changed hands, so the live version is no longer available.

Wireless Zero Configuration service is not available

Date: 16th August 2007 Category: misc   No comments

The Dell Inspiron 6400 (XP with SP2) with the Broadcom Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card (4.100.15.5) developed a nasty habit of dropping wireless connection and refusing to acquire an IP address via DHCP. In running diagnostics, provided by Broadcom somehow Windows Zero Configuration wireless was disabled. The user in this case loves to use the icon on the lower right to connect so i added a problem that must be fixed. Microsoft provides a knowledge base article for this problem see the link below. Back to the wireless problem. Dell tries hard but their web site reminds me of the maze in "The Shining". Luckily, the fix was not an update to the Broadcom mini-card. Basic house cleaning cleared the Dell's wireless. Delete all wireless connections from memory and rebuild the wireless connection you need from scratch. So goes Windows, trying to solve one problem can lead to additional damage. (Use at your own risk!)

Factory default an original Airport Base Station

Date: 26th July 2007 Category: macintosh   No comments

The original single ethernet Airport base station (very old) was difficult to reset. Following the Apple instructions to the letter (see link) failed to upload the default configuration from any of the Intel based machines i tried. Luckily I had access to a G4 Power PC which is about as old as the base station. The Airport Admin utility on that unit was version 4.2. Worked without a problem.

RAM install for iMac 24

Date: 19th July 2007 Category: macintosh  2 comments

Apple has great installation guides for RAM. The 24" iMac install is simple, however, RAM is so very important and quite difficult to troubleshoot if flawed. Care should always be taken. The guide is worth reviewing.
