Mac addict label

Date: August 24th, 2007   No comments

The other day i got labeled a Mac addict. It is the operating system i would choose for my everyday use. Apple and i have a long history, but that is another story. For my audience in this blog, i thought i'd list my history of operating system exploration.

  • Every Mac OS starting at OS 7 (680x0, PPC, OS X) including Apple's AIX and the original incarnation of Mac OS X Server
  • Microsoft 98, NT, 2000, XP and XP Pro (each as painful as the Next)
  • Irix SGI OS (i loved that Unix; clean, powerful, reliable)
  • Linux Red Hat 6 (admin's admin OS, can't we all just get along)
  • Sun Solaris 7 - 10 (enterprise cash to maintain and expand, but has no equal)
  • Yellow Dog and FreeBSD (gotta mention the adventures of the free range OS)

Computing for the last 12 years has been a ride through the wilderness. How the internet and networking changed the landscape is just remarkable. Why so many operating systems? Truth is a majority where called upon to do a specific task with the bottom-line goal being reliability. No winner and all have been run over by progress.

The Mac addict label is true, but it took faith to get there. What will the operating system become?
